How to fill out a PDF form online
Most PDF forms are meant to be typed into, but opening them in a plain viewer gives you no cursor. The Fill form tool opens the form’s real fields in the browser — text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns — and saves a clean filled copy, free.
When the form must not be edited after you submit it, flatten it: the answers become part of the page itself.
Step by step
- 1Open the form. Drop the PDF on the Fill form tool. Every fillable field is detected and highlighted.
- 2Type your answers. Click through the fields — text, dates, checkboxes, dropdowns. Tab moves to the next field like in any form.
- 3Sign it if needed. Many forms end with a signature line: add yours with the Sign tool, drawn or typed.
- 4Download — flattened if required. Save the filled PDF. Choose flatten to bake the answers into the page so recipients cannot alter them.
Form has no real fields? Still fillable
Plenty of "forms" are just scanned paper with lines on it — no actual fields to type into. For those, open the file in the Edit PDF tool and add text boxes where the answers belong; the result prints exactly like a filled form.
What flattening does
A filled form still carries live fields — anyone with an editor can change your answers. Flattening converts fields into ordinary page content: what you typed becomes as fixed as the printed text around it. Use it for anything you submit officially; skip it while the form is still being passed around for input.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it support checkboxes and dropdowns?
- Yes — all standard PDF form field types are supported, not just text boxes.
- Can the receiver edit my answers?
- Not if you flatten before sending: the answers become part of the page itself.
- Is my form kept on the server?
- No — like every tool here, the file is deleted automatically 60 minutes after last use.
